The top shell structure of the roding R1 (Roding Roadster R1) Roadster will use the new thermoplastic resin transfer mode of Kraussmaffei Company (Kraussmaffei)during the K-Show in Germany.

The plastic forming process (T-RTM) is processed and formed, in which Caprolactam is injected into a preformed part, and the polyamide 6 (PA6) is generated after the modular polymerization.

The Kraussmaffei technology company (Munich, Germany) said that a thermoplastic resin transfer molding process (T-RTM) was introduced during the K-Show in Germany this fall to produce fiber-reinforced PA6 components near the net size using a modular polymerization of caprolactam.

At the K-show in 2016, Kraussmaffei will demonstrate the production of a metal-inlaid 500mmx600mm automotive structural component in a series of production conditions.

The top shell structure of the roding R1 Roadster will be shown a few days a day at the exhibition.

The thermoplastic resin transfer molding process (T-RTM) begins in the stamping die, the continuous fiber preformed parts (glass fiber and carbon fiber, 60% of the fiber content) in the mold by caprolactam infiltration.

When Caprolactam is injected, it is mixed with an initiator/catalyst to induce polymerization and the caprolactam is transformed into PA6.

Krauss-Maffei, director of composite and surface operations at the company, said the demo at K Booth would last two minutes, designed for high-volume projects and multiple shifts.

The Krauss-Maffei company says that low viscosity caprolactam is similar to water, allowing the substrate to penetrate the fiber layer even under low internal-model pressure. In the demonstration process of the K show, close to 350 metric tons of locking force will be used. In addition, the high fluidity reduces the minimum wall thickness and increases the fiber content to about 60%.
