Sandwich PP Mat: This is a three-layer glass fiber mat based on alkali-free glass.

This material consists of two layers of chopped strand fiber and a polypropylene (resin flowing medium) central layer. It has excellent drapability and extensibility, fast resin impregnation speed and uniform felt surface.

This mat is suitable for polyester resin, vinyl resin, epoxy resin and phenolic resin.

The resin transfer molding process (RTM) enables the industrial production of large FRP parts. In this technique, layers of reinforcement (mats, woven rovings) are placed in the mold cavity, resin is injected, and the closed mold is filled with external pressure applied. Due to the strong interdependence between mold design, filling behavior and part quality, controlling cavity pressure is key as it is the most dominant process-affecting parameter. A simple model is proposed to represent the pressure distribution during mold filling. It is based on Darcy’s law of liquid flow through porous media and can be applied to a single type or a combination of different reinforcement materials.
