Innovative Solution for Railway Industry: Flame-Retardant RTM Fabric

Description

A combination mat is a multi-layered web made of E-glass fibers at +/- 45° angles with an additional layer of polypropylene in between. Resin is impregnated through the glass fiber layer and on the flow medium in the polypropylene core, providing high drapability for complex FRP parts. The mat has a thickness range of 2-5mm.

Sandwiching a polypropylene core between two chopped strand mats enables quick and precise resin flow throughout the laminate, allowing for the creation of shaped parts that conform to the mold. This product is well-suited for large-scale production, projects requiring highly filled resin systems, and applications that require flame retardancy.

Benefits include increased production, reduced labor costs, high drapability, maximum resin flow rate, decreased filling time, reduced filling costs, improved structural strength and stiffness, and consistent final product quality.

To meet the railway industry’s demand for improved materials, our research and development team has created a new core-spun fiberglass RTM fabric reinforcement that meets the new EN standards for fire protection in railway vehicles. This product helps customers avoid frequent shutdowns and mold processing difficulties, and requires the use of flame-retardant resin. The range of products is halogen-free and offers all the benefits of the existing RTM flow mat range, as well as additional flame retardancy that complies with EN 45545 requirements.
