The Structures of Woven Rovings

Glass woven roving is a product made from glass fibers that is commonly used in various industries, including transport, sport, and manufacturing. It is available in regular texture or as unidirectional orientated tissues or bands. The structures of woven rovings are categorized into three types: plain weave, twill weave, and sateen weave.

PLAIN WEAVE

Plain weave is the strongest but the least flexible structure, with fibers that are identical and regularly laid out in warp and heft. The fibers of the weft always go under and above the fibers of the warp.

TWILL WEAVE

Twill weave, on the other hand, is a structure where the weft fibers cross at least two fibers of the warp before going above one or more warp fibers. In the next line, the weft fiber is moved to the right or left to the nearest fiber of warp.

SATEEN WEAVE

Sateen weave is the weakest weaving structure, with one fiber of warp covered by four or more fibers of weft from above and by one fiber from the bottom. The number of warp fibers covered by weft is determined by the sateen structure, which ranges from 5 to 12. This structure allows minimal waving of fibers, making it possible to produce composites with high strength and rigidity.

It is recommended to store glass rovings in a cool and dry place, with a maximum temperature of 35° C and a relative humidity below 75%. The roving should remain packaged until use, and the packaging must be kept in good condition to prevent moisture from entering and rendering the product unsuitable for use.

If you are interested in purchasing woven roving mat, samples can be provided upon request with an accompanying offer. It’s worth noting that there are other types of glass rovings available, including basalt and natural fiber-based options, with each type suitable for specific applications and possessing unique characteristics. The products obtained using different types of roving will also exhibit specific properties.
