Flow Mat: Choose the Right Material for Optimal Distribution Layer

Flow Mat is a specific type of composite reinforcement material for closed molding processes, consisting of a synthetic nonwoven core and chopped glass fibers. The resin flows through the core and impregnates the glass fibers, resulting in a strong and durable composite material. Flow Mat is designed to improve resin flow and reduce voids in the finished product, making it a popular choice in industries such as automotive, marine, and construction.

Adding a polyester surface veil to the outside of Flow Mat creates a composite material known as DymFlow Mat. The surface veil improves adhesion between the composite and the embedded part, making it an ideal material for sandwich constructions with foam, rubber, or cork.

As a flow medium in closed molding processes, the polyester veil on one side of DymFlow Mat helps to prevent resin from flowing into the fibers and ensures even distribution of resin throughout the mold. This helps to reduce the risk of dry spots and achieve a high-quality surface finish.

As a reinforcement material in sandwich constructions, the polyester veil helps to improve adhesion between the core material (such as foam, rubber or cork) and the composite layers. This results in a stronger and more durable sandwich structure.

The addition of a polyester veil on one side of the Dym-Flow Mat helps to improve the surface quality of the final product. The veil reduces the appearance of glass imprints on the surface of the composite, resulting in a smoother and more aesthetically pleasing finish.

The resin impregnated polyester veil surface can act as a chemical barrier by creating a protective layer that helps prevent water penetration and improves the product’s resistance to chemical corrosion. This feature is particularly useful in applications where the finished product will be exposed to harsh environments, such as marine or industrial settings.

Flow Mat is a composite reinforcement material designed for closed molding processes, specifically infusion processes with materials featuring an internal distribution layer such as PP mat. It is composed of a knitted polypropylene distribution layer (mesh) or a continuous glass fiber mat that is bonded to a reinforcement and/or a glass mat. The mesh or fiber mat helps to evenly distribute the resin throughout the composite during the infusion process, ensuring optimal resin flow and reducing the risk of dry spots or voids. The reinforcement and/or glass mat provide additional strength and durability to the composite.

With the PE Flow Mat range you can choose the material according to the following parameters.

Distribution Layer – Knitted Polyester Mesh or Continuous Glass Mat.

Reinforcement – Fiberglass, Multiaxial Fabric.

One or two layers of glass mat with a density of 200-1200g/m2.

Combination Mat

Combination Mat is a versatile composite reinforcement material that combines the benefits of a synthetic core (distribution layer) and a multi-axial fabric. This material can be customized by adding additional elements such as a veil or glass mat to meet specific manufacturing requirements. The use of Combination Mat provides greater flexibility in composite production, allowing for the creation of complex structural components with varying mechanical properties.

The production of Combination Mat involves multiple layers of materials that are stitched together in a single step. The combination of materials can vary depending on the desired properties and performance of the final product.

Combination Mat is not necessarily a variation of FLOW MAT that has vertical fibers in a 50% to 50% synthetic material. Combination Mat can be made of various materials and combinations, depending on the application and required mechanical properties.

However, Combination Mat does typically have a core layer made of synthetic material with vertical fibers, which allows for improved resin flow and distribution during the manufacturing process. This core layer can be combined with other layers, such as multi-axial fabrics, surface veils, and additional glass or carbon fiber mats, to create a customized reinforcement mat erial.
