Daimler uses RTM Process to Shorten the Manufacturing Cycle of Carbon Fiber Body Structure
Daimler is cooperating with Japan’s carbon-fiber maker Toray, which plans to set up a carbon fiber production facility in Germany to produce carbon fiber products for Mercedes-Benz models.
April, Daimler, and Toray Industry announced cooperation in the production of carbon fiber products for the 2013 Mercedes Benz SL-Class models.
“Daimler is working with the Toray industry to shorten the manufacturing cycle of the carbon fiber body structure using resin transfer molding (RTM),” said Bharat Balasubramanian, director of Daimler Research and development. ”
Germany’s Daimler carbon fiber plant will help Daimler to produce 25,000 to 30,000 carbon fiber bodies a year. Earlier, BMW announced the production of carbon fiber products with SGL Group in the United States for BMW’s upcoming megacity electric vehicle.
