Dymriton Composites, a manufacturer of fiberglass structural composite reinforcements, has developed an industrial-grade Polyester(PET) veil that provides multiple benefits for composite surfaces. This thermobonded veil has a weight of 30 and 60gsm and comes in rolls up to 2540mm wide.

It can be used as a stand-alone product or mechanically bonded to integrate with Dymriton’s wide range of composite reinforcements for open and closed mold and pultrusion processes.

The PET surface veil has undergone successful tests in onshore fish farms and boatbuilding applications, and is now available to maritime and other related industries. The veil offers improved surface finish, as well as increased chemical and corrosion resistance.

It has been designed to enhance the appearance of boat hulls and surfaces by reducing the visibility of glass fibers on the gelcoat, making it well-suited for automotive applications and Class A skin coats.

This product can be mechanically attached to existing Dymriton offerings without the need for stitching or chemicals, resulting in a superior surface finish. It is also compatible with a wide variety of resins, and its open structure allows for easy flow.

Gelcoats are susceptible to water infiltration in wet environments, which can cause large or multiple micro-blisters as the coating separates from the primary composite laminate. The PET surface veil effectively resists blistering and moisture ingress due to the resin-rich layer and strong fiber bond with the gelcoat. Furthermore, it provides corrosion protection to pultruded composite components like ladders and handrails used in harsh chemical settings.
