Moldable Flow Mat for RTM, RTM Light, Vacuum, CCB and Infusion
Moldable Flow Mat (MM) is a product designed for use in various resin transfer techniques into mold closed, such as RTM, RTM Light, Pressing, Vacuum, etc.
The Moldable Flow Mat may be composed of a non-woven core synthetic fabric or an emulsion chopped strand mat, sewn between two layers of chopped fiberglass.
The synthetic core provides superior resin flow, while glass fibers provide excellent mechanical properties to the laminate.
Benefits
The Moldable Flow Mat, due to its high resin fluidity and rapid wetting ability in molding processes by resin transfer, allows the production of parts with excellent quality with reduced processing time, increasing line productivity.
The combination of the synthetic core stitched with fiberglass results in a Highly formable reinforcement material for all types of radii (concave or convex), requiring an effort minimum operator requirement for placement in the mold.
The Moldable Flow Mat will remain correctly positioned in the mold ensuring a consistent distribution of the glass in small radii, causing fewer bubble problems and laminates with a high level of quality.
The compression of the Moldable Flow Mat will allow some variation in the thickness of the part within the mold cavity, however maintaining good resin flow.
As the grammage of the chopped fiberglass is balanced and symmetrical about the core, the Moldable Flow Mat significantly reduces the risk of distortion in parts.
The Moldable Flow Mat will provide a superior surface finish on the pieces.
Where necessary, a surface veil can be incorporated on one of the sides.
The Moldable Flow Mat is sewn using polyamide thread to maintain the integrity and compatibility of the material making it easy to handle and cut without frayed edges.
These features save material and time as well as a cleaner workplace.
Product Application
The table below lists the available Moldable Blanket configurations and their respective physical properties.
The Blanket Moldable is designed to be used as a single layer of reinforcement, with no pre-forming operation required.
Forming is necessary before placing it in the mold. The thickness of the final piece and the amount of glass required are decisive factors in choosing the appropriate material.
The proportion of glass and resin will dictate the mechanical resistance of the piece as a whole.
Mechanical Properties of Laminates
Below is a basis for determining the correct configuration of the Moldable Flow Mat according to the thickness of the part.
For a given configuration, the amount of glass placed will decrease with an increase in the thickness of the piece.
The flow of resin is a function of the amount of glass and will increase as the amount of glass placed on the blanket decreases.
Moldable Flow Mat can generally be handled at 35% compression molding fillers and 58% compression molding fillers. for injection molding.
